The Elizabethtown College women’s volleyball squad continues an impressive season with two more wins against Wilson College and FDU-Florham.
Both games were won in a controlling fashion, with game one versus Wilson being a shutout 3-0 win and game two versus FDU-Florham being a 3-1 win.
Senior Kate Barbon started the game off strong with a quick kill for the Lady Jays, setting the tone for the rest of the set. Later in the set, Etown came together for five consecutive points versus Wilson, followed later on by another six consecutive points to double the score 16-6.
In the second set, the Lady Jays didn’t slow down their momentum. Right off the bat, they were able to take the first three points thanks to a service ace and two kills by Barbon and junior Sierra Plummer.
The rest of the second set included back-and-forth action between the two teams, Etown scoring six consecutive points twice, and an ultimate win from Etown 25-15.
The third and final set of the game saw the same commanding style Etown had shown throughout the morning. The set started with a 7-0 lead created by the Lady Jays, highlighted by four attack errors. With multiple occasions of back-to-back points scored, Etown had a shutout win, winning the third and final set 25-13.
In game two versus FDU-Florham, sophomore Lucy Stanek recorded a double-double, totaling 17 kills and 17 digs. Three other Lady Jays saw double-digit kills: Barbon, Fisher, and Plummer.
This game saw more back-and-forth action between the two squads. Set one was a close game, with FDU-Florham compiling numerous kills and attack errors to take an early lead. However, the Etown women were quick to respond with points of their own.
The Lady Jays would take set one in a 25-23 narrow victory.
Even with set two being won by FDU-Florham, Etown didn’t let this slow their roll. Sets three and four were won by the Lady Jays in 25-15 and 25-17.
This helped improve their record of the season thus far to 9-3, ranking them second in the Landmark Conference. Elizabethtown will take on Franklin & Marshall College at home in their next matchup on Oct 1.
