Elizabethtown College took a short trip over to the Lebanon Country Club for the Lebanon Valley College Fall Golf Invitational. Previously on the par 72 course, the Etown men’s team had placed 13th out of 18 teams, with a team score of +52. In the spring meetup at the same course, the Blue Jays had improved up to ninth place of 13 teams, scoring a +48.
The women’s team has competed in the competition a week prior as individuals rather than as a team, with current senior Jillian Schwartz finishing with a +34 in her round, placing 48th. The women’s team’s select golfers were led by first-year Karsyn Peifer who placed 21st with a score of +30, shooting a 102. First-year Emma Leo finished behind Peifer with a score of +32, placing 25th overall. Schwartz finished 31st overall, shooting 122, notching a score of +50, rounding out the three golfers for the women’s team.
The men’s team had finished well, improving from last year’s finish of 13th to third, as the team shot a +37, tying Penn State Harrisburg for the third position. The Blue Jays were only trailing the second place Millersville University by eight shots and Pittsburgh Greensburg finished first in the event with a +12. Leading the Blue Jays was senior Drew Byrd, finishing the course shooting a 79, tying for 14th in the competition with a score of +7. First-year Paul Fulfer finished right behind Byrd, scoring an 80 which placed him tied for 17th with a score of +8.
With a score of +9, senior John Harrison tied for 26th place with a score of 81, helping the Blue Jays lower their score. Rounding out the scoring totals for the Blue Jays, senior Jude Kane finished with a score of +13, shooting an 85, and securing a tie for 47th place in the competition out of 102 golfers. Etown’s first-years Talan Splitter and Wyatt Weges tied for 67th, shooting an 88 with a score of +16 as the first golfers outside of the scoring totals. First-year Jeremiah Wong rounded out the Blue Jays in their performance, scoring a +24 with a 94th place finish.
The Blue Jays golf teams have finished their fall portion of the season, however, will resume their season’s action in the spring around March. Previously, Etown had returned to LVC for their spring invitational, however, the schedule has not been released yet, meaning the next date and venue for the team will be determined at a later date.
