Psychic soulmates, Anthem and Aria, stun Etown students

When the term “psychic” comes to mind, most people are either skeptical or slightly believe in what they do. People believe that the actions that they do are fake or there is something else to it. On Nov. 15, Elizabethtown College was visited by Anthem and Aria, the psychic soulmates.

Anthem and Aria fell in love 10 years ago through a mutual friend and have been in love ever since. They live in Denver, Colorado but have performed in six different countries. They starred on America’s Got Talent and are even broadcasted on Hulu. When asked how they do what they do Anthem and Aria they said, “it’s a lot of work, time and dedication.” Being a psychic is not something that can be done in a short amount of time. It takes years and years to perfect the practice.

This magical night was hosted in the KAV and put together by Etown’s Office of Student Activities (OSA), this interactive show was something different on campus. Conrad’s Corner was there selling drinks and snacks for those who attended, free of charge.

Anthem and Aria did many interactive acts throughout the night. They started off by asking random people to write down their favorite song, which would be used in the last act. They did an act where they picked three people and gave them a piece of paper and pen to write down something truthful about themselves. They were asked to move away from the stage so Anthem and Aria could not see what they had written. They came back, and then one at a time they read their minds. Anthem and Aria also did an act where they picked random objects from the crowd while Aria was blindfolded. She was able to guess not only the object in the people’s hands but their names too. She was able to read off the digits on a dollar bill, number by number.

Also, there was an act involving lottery numbers. Six people from the crowd had to stop at a random page in a book and whatever page it landed on was that person’s lucky number. As they read off the numbers on the lottery ticket, all of them matched the numbers that the crowd had. The last act, and the most exciting act, was we all created a dream cruise. Anthem would ask a specific place we were going, what famous person we were going with, and what we were eating. He would go around to people with a coin, and they had to put it in one hand. Both hands would correspond to two options in the subject and Aria had to choose what hand. When all the subjects were done, they revealed a poster board with all of the options that Aria chose randomly from the crowd and the song that was the song that was chosen at the beginning of the show.

Helen Hostetter, a second year member of the OSA and a music therapy major, was skeptical when she first came into the show. “I did not know what to expect coming into the show. I thought they were going to put people to sleep,” Hostetter said. “After seeing what they did, it is crazy to see what they did on the spot.”

Lilit Sabot, a digital media production major, was also skeptical of the psychic when he first came in. “I believe there are tricks behind what they do but there is no way to read the mind,” Sabot said. “My favorite activity they did was probably guessing the objects in the crowd, but even after the show I still do not believe in them.”

I personally did not believe in them when they first came out. As the show progressed, my mind was blown. The whole show was such a cool and unique experience, and I am so glad that I went.
