Although Elizabethtown College is a smaller school, it is impossible to get to know everybody. Students are busy balancing classes, work, clubs and more. So this week we are introducing another student, London Seiders. Seiders is a first-year early and middle level education student, with a focus in mathematics, from Anneville, Pennsylvania.
Teaching has been a passion of Seiders’ ever since she was a child. “I’ve always known from the start that I wanted to be a teacher and I’ve always loved math, so I knew this would be a great career for me.”
Seiders is currently employed at a dance and gymnastics studio located in Lebanon, Pennsylvania, where she teaches students from ages 2 to 18. Teaching dance has played a role in her passion to teach.
“This definitely helped influence my major because ever since I was a little girl I knew I wanted to be a teacher, but I knew that after teaching these kids it was definitely teaching that was going to be my major because I just loved how much joy I got from teaching,” Seiders said.
Having first visited Etown’s campus in April 2024, Seiders said she knew this was the school for her.
“As soon as I arrived and stepped foot, I knew that I wanted to be a student here,” Seiders said.
Etown was the first, and only, college that Seiders toured. Seiders expressed that many factors such as campus size, environment, and students impacted her decision to apply.
“As I was doing my tour on campus, I had a really nice tour guide that seemed very passionate about being a student here, and everybody, including the staff, facility, and other fellow potential students, all seemed so nice and I knew that this beautiful campus was right for me,” Seiders said.
The small size of the campus as well as the environment were qualities that stood out to Seiders. “Everything is so close together so everything is within walking distance and the environment is just so beautiful. There’s just so many beautiful spots to just go sit outside, watch all the squirrels running around and chasing each other, and just sit outside and study,” she said.
Seiders said she is still starting to get involved with groups on campus, but is in both the Momentum and the Honors Programs. She enjoys going to the gym and attending group fitness classes offered to students.
“I’m looking forward to getting to more group fitness classes. Having all these free group fitness classes in the evenings has allowed me to go to the gym, prioritize my health, and get to know new people from these classes,” Seiders said.
Adjusting to college life can be difficult. Seiders said she manages this adjustment by planning out each day, setting time for herself as well as time for school work.
Feeling included and finding community in college is an important part of college life. Seiders said she’s found Elizabethtown’s students willing to include others.
“I feel that there is really good diversity of students here, so I can always find someone that is always open to listening to me, and my professors are also really open to listening too,” Seiders said. “My favorite memories of the first semester so far have been meeting my new friend, Cassidy, who is in the Kinesis and Honors Program with me, and hanging out with my wonderful roommate. I also like just being able to connect with more and more people in my major.”
Seiders said she is looking forward to making more memories in her future years at Etown.
