Women’s Cross Country barely loses to Scranton

Saturday, Oct. 29 in Towson Md. the Elizabethtown College women’s cross-country team attended the Landmark Conference tournaments at Goucher College. The women’s Landmark Conference Cross Country Championship race came down to a single point between Etown and the Scranton Royals. Unfortunately for Etown, it was Scranton that would claim the team title by one point with a final score of Etown’s 42 points to Scranton’s 43 points.

Junior Kelty Oaster and senior Bridget Kennedy were All-Landmark First Team honorees as Etown was the runner-up with 43 points.

Over the final 2,000 meters of the race, Oaster moved her way up four places to secure third place for Etown. Her final time was 23 minutes and 15.2 seconds. Meanwhile, Kennedy was right there at the line as she placed fourth in 23 minutes and 15.5 seconds.

Senior Madison Webber earned eighth place with a time of 23 minutes and 37.8 seconds. Sophomore Megan Lysek-Hagy worked her way up four spots from 17th place after crossing the 4k to her final spot in 13th place with a time of 23 minutes and 57.6 seconds.

Graduate student Melissa Fitzggibbon was the final Blue Jay to finish. She placed 15th overall, with a final time of 24 minutes and 8.6 seconds.

Scranton’s Jessica Hoffmann was the individual champion. The Royals were also seventh, ninth, 11th and 14th to earn the team title by a point over Etown.

The women’s cross country team will compete at the NCAA Division III Mid-Atlantic Regional on Saturday, Nov. 12.
