Sports update

Recently, there has been some discussion about various sports teams starting to practice, but not to compete. Elizabethtown College is following the National Collegiate Athletics Association’s (NCAA) decision to postpone all athletic competition, but are permitting teams to practice in small groups. Even though the athletes are practicing, they have to follow very strict COVID-19 precautions. On top of having to follow the guidelines at the College, the athletes, according to the campus news announcement on Oct.12, have to sign up for a time slot, go to practice at that time and get tested for COVID-19 regularly. The testing will be funded through the Elizabethtown College Athletics Association.

As of right now, according to Athletic Director Chris Morgan, “teams have started to practice in small groups in order to work on individual skills and conditioning.” Seeing as all Fall sports have been cancelled, and with the recent uptick in COVID-19 cases, it does not seem likely that the winter sports are going to happen this semester. According to the Elizabethtown College Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) page, there will be an update in November as to whether or not winter and spring sports are going to happen. As of right now, the College is exploring ways to make the winter and spring seasons more robust for student athletes.
