Puppy Bowl

Puppy Bowl

If you are not a football fan, and are watching TV on Super Bowl weekend, you might come across something known as the Puppy Bowl. The Puppy Bowl is an annual television show on Animal Planet. This year, the puppies were put on either Team Fluff or Team Ruff and faced off against each other in their own version of football. This has happened every year for the last 17 years. The purpose of the Puppy Bowl is to raise awareness for animals in shelters to help them find a permanent home. This year was especially important because of the pandemic, and just watching puppies be puppies was a welcome relief from current news of the pandemic. For the last 16 years, the Puppy Bowl has accomplished its mission: all the puppies in the Puppy Bowl were adopted.

Animal Planet works with Petfinder during the selection process for puppies. Petfinder reaches out to shelters to see if they have any puppies that meet the age and size requirements. If the rescue shelter has puppies that meet the requirements, Animal Planet asks the rescue if they would be interested in having that puppy participate in the Puppy Bowl. There were over 70 puppies chosen from 22 shelters.

This year, Truman had a reaction to the Puppy Bowl. He enjoyed watching the Puppy Bowl, but would rather be an only child if he had to interact with other puppies.

This year was the 17th Puppy Bowl. It ended with a surprising comeback from Team Ruff. Saturday, Feb. ruary 7, the 17th Puppy Bowl was held. This year, ESPN announcer Steve Levy and SportsCenter host Sage Steele provided play by play commentary, and Snoop Dogg and Martha Stewart were the hosts of this event.

At halftime, there was a kitty show, which consisted of kitty cats running around and playing with toys as music was playing in the background.

At the end of the game, Team Ruff was down by three points with under a minute left. Then, Paulie, an American Staffordshire Terrier and Dutch Shepherd mix, sprinted for a touchdown and scored just as the clock ran out. The final score was 73-69.
