New Assistant Wrestling Coach – Caleb Warner

New Assistant Wrestling Coach – Caleb Warner

Elizabethtown College recently hired Assistant Wrestling Coach Caleb Warner.

Warner started working for the College on Monday, Oct. 4.

What makes Warner’s position unique is the fact that he is also attending Etown as a student to receive his master’s in business administration. He previously attended Millersville University for Robotics and Control System Engineering and decided to pursue his master’s degree after graduating in December of 2020.

Warner began wrestling in his freshman year of high school, which in comparison to other wrestlers could be considered a late start. He fell in love with wrestling and with the aspect of the sport that wrestlers are working together as a team but are competing individually.

“I enjoyed the individualism of doing something on your own but also knowing you’re on a team and you have to win as a team,” Warner said.

Warner has some previous coaching experience from Beat the Streets, an at-risk youth program in Lancaster where elementary school aged children came to wrestle. In addition, he occasionally coached a practice at his old high school when he was home during college.

After deciding to attend Etown for his MBA, Warner was also looking to use his last year of eligibility to wrestle for Etown. However, because he came from a Division II school, Millersville University, he was unable to wrestle for Etown since the school is Division III. Head coach Eric Walker invited Warner to coach alongside him.

While simultaneously being a student and assistant coach, Warner is looking forward to the opportunity to set a good example for the undergraduate wrestlers on the team by proving to them that you can in fact keep good grades while still being a successful and dedicated athlete.

Warner is excited to begin his assistant coaching position and is just as excited about the season as the rest of the team.

“We had a team meeting, and everyone just seemed excited to be here [and] are grateful for the opportunity,” Warner said.
