The Elizabethtown College women’s volleyball team hosted a tri-match on Saturday, Oct. 17, facing off against Landmark Conference opponent Wilkes University and the Alvernia University Golden Wolves.
The Blue Jays delivered two impressive performances, defeating both opponents in straight sets and improving their overall record to 18-6 and remaining undefeated in the Landmark Conference.
The Blue Jays started the afternoon against the Wilkes Colonels in what would become a competitive matchup. Both teams battled for control throughout the opening set, trading points and refusing to give up momentum.
Neither team could establish a comfortable advantage, forcing the contest beyond the traditional 25-point mark. Led by Lucy Stanek, who recorded 20 kills throughout the match, Etown eventually secured the opening set in a narrow 32-30 victory.
With Serious momentum on their side, the Blue Jays entered the second set looking to extend their advantage. Wilkes attempted to respond, but Etown’s offense proved too consistent for the Colonels.
The Blue Jays began to establish control through strong net play and efficient attacking, limiting Wilkes to just seven kills throughout the second set. Etown closed out the set 25-15, earning a 2-0 lead.
The third set shared a similar story. Although Wilkes continued fighting for an opportunity to extend the match, Etown maintained control, eventually securing a 25-18 victory to complete the sweep.
Stanek led the Blue Jays with 20 kills and 13 digs, while Bailey McFeaters contributed another 11 kills. Kinsey Reuwer recorded nine block assists, while Zoey Henning finished with 20 assists.
Following their victory over Wilkes, the Blue Jays returned to the court to face the Alvernia Golden Wolves.
Etown wasted little time establishing offensive dominance in the opening set. Although Alvernia remained competitive through the early rallies, the Blue Jays began to find their rhythm, using consistent attacking and strong defensive play to maintain their advantage.
Despite Alvernia’s efforts to remain within striking distance, Etown closed out the opening set 25-18.
The second set proved to be the Blue Jays’ most dominant performance of the afternoon. Etown quickly took control, capitalizing on Alvernia’s offensive mistakes and preventing the Golden Wolves from establishing a rhythm
Etown’s defense proved especially effective, holding Alvernia to just five kills while forcing 10 attacking errors. The Blue Jays continued to extend their advantage, eventually securing a commanding 25-8 victory.
However, Alvernia showed resilience in the third set, challenging Etown throughout the final rallies. Even with the increased pressure, Etown maintained its composure and closed out the set 25-23, completing its second sweep of the afternoon.
Stanek once again led Etown offensively with 12 kills, while Tori Obarow contributed nine. Reuwer finished with six total blocks, while Henning recorded four service aces.
The victories move Etown to 18-6 overall and 5-0 in Landmark Conference play as the Blue Jays look to continue their momentum against Juniata next Friday, Oct. 23.
