A Mile in His Shoes

A Mile in His Shoes

“A Mile in His Shoes” is a movie about an autistic man named Mickey Tussler, who was an actual baseball player in 1948. Mickey is the pitcher for the Milwaukee Brewers. He is 18 years old, marginally verbal, refers to himself in the third person, recites poetry when overwhelmed and is incapable of deception. He also has a pet pig named Oscar, whom he loves.

The movie begins with Mickey pitching apples into a barrel for Oscar. A recruiter named Arthur Murphy, also known as Murph, convinces Mickey’s mother to let Mickey join the team, and she eventually does. Mickey does not fit in with his teammates, but survives some pretty serious hazing.

The 1948 season for the Brewers started off really rocky. What happens to the Brewers when Mickey starts to fit in with the team a little more? You can either read the book or watch the movie on Prime Video to find out.
