Today’s Tech: Underwater “supercar” starts being produced for the public

Recently, production on an underwater “supercar” has ramped up with its proposal to public eyes a way for people to travel undersea. The U-Boat Worx Super Sub is a three-person submersible vehicle that is capable of traveling underwater at 11.5 mph. It initially launched in 2023, designed for luxury travel and maneuverability.

To most people, the speed the submersible achieves of 10 knots (or 11.5 mph) seems rather low, but for submersibles this is a rather fast pace. Most small submersible vehicles top out at only 4 knots, with the submarines used for aquatic research topping out around 3, or even as low as 1. According to U-Boat Worx, the submersible is designed to fly through the water, rather than just float, and to achieve this it incorporates a wing-like design into the submarine. “The Super Sub is equipped with cutting-edge hydrofoils that direct thrust with extreme efficiency. Positioned at the rear, these fins allow the sub to bank, turn and dive with extraordinary fluidity, redefining how a super sub handles beneath the surface,” U-Boat Worx stated.

Another aspect of the submarine that may not seem too important is its potential depth of 300 meters. While this may not seem the deepest, the majority of marine life is normally found within the first 200 meters of the water column. The submarine’s primary goal is to provide a luxury, “sports car” like experience while under the water, making it a prime vehicle to take for underwater tourism while on trips.

Furthermore, the submarine’s safety aspects are topnotch as well. With the limitation of speed and potential depth, U-Boat Worx can provide the customers of this product with a safe trip underneath the sea. In the case of an emergency within the cabin, the submarine can travel upwards at a 45-degree angle, allowing for the fastest recovery to the surface that a submersible vehicle has yet to offer. Currently, the super sub is undergoing even more safety trials in Curaçao, an island positioned to the north of Venezuela where potential safety hazards are being noted, and new features are being implemented.

U-Boat Worx has confirmed that the final preparations for the submarine’s launch are being finalized and that the company plans to initiate the launch of the sub to the public. U-Boat Worx believes that the submarines will be primarily used by companies who want to offer tourists a nice “underwater view” of the surrounding area while also allowing tourists the fun of driving the submarine. At the speeds that it goes, the company believes that the submarine will draw the attention of people who just wish to drive it around under the water, citing its fluid movement. “The Super Sub delivers maneuverability and G-forces you must feel to believe. It does not just change how you explore the ocean. It changes what is possible in it,” U-Boat Worx describes. The submarine is going to begin at a price of $5.75 million dollars, allowing companies to purchase them and offer a new way to tour the beautiful underwater areas all across the world.
