Student Senate

Student Senate met Thursday, April 15 at 3:45 p.m. over Zoom for their weekly meeting.

Vice President for Student Life Dr. Celestino Limas began the meeting with his administrative report. He started by saying he is disappointed by the number of inappropriate responses on the “before I graduate” boards in the Baugher Student Center (BSC) concourse.

He then gave a few updates on behalf of Campus Security. Students in need of transportation to the Park City COVID-19 vaccination site can book a ride with Campus Security through Jayweb. They ask for at least 48 hours notice, if possible, to guarantee a ride.

Limas also said that while interhall visitation is now allowed, building hours are the same as pre-COVID campus rules. Students are able to scan into other residence halls between 9 a.m. and midnight, and must use the “front door” of buildings. Interhall visitation only applies to residential students.

Executive Sous Chef Barry Hornberger gave a report for Dining Services. He announced that there will be a ramen and bubble tea sampling Wednesday, April 28 from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the Bowers Center for Sports, Fitness and Well-being.

Junior Riley Becker asked if there will be vegetarian options. Hornberger said that the food is provided by an outside vendor, so he will reach out to see if that’s a possibility.

Assistant Director of Community Living Rina Carpenter gave the report for the Office of Student Activities (OSA). They gave more information about Thank Goodness It’s Spring (TGIS) Friday, April 30. All events are outside except for the concert and bingo, which are being held in the Bowers Fieldhouse for technology reasons.

Director of Academic Advising and Associate Dean of Students Stephanie Rankin encouraged students to waitlist for any classes they are interested in as there will likely be fluctuation in the registration lists.

During executive cabinet reports, junior Executive Treasurer Kyle Cappucci announced that the finance committee approved a $60 request for the Computer Science club.

Senior Publicity and Marketing Chairperson Gio Zapata told senators the last episode for the semester of Keeping Up With The Senators is on the senate Instagram account and features senior Executive Secretary Jeremy Eberly as the guest.

The meeting then moved into class updates. Junior class president Jessica Freels announced the Class of 2022’s latest fundraiser, April Showers Bring May Flowers. Students can buy carnations, $2 each or $4 for three, which will be delivered Tuesday, May 4 to students’ mailboxes.

The first order of new business was scholarship voting, where senators chose the winning applications for their scholarships.

The second, and last, order of business was a legislation update. The proposed amendment to Article V, Section 3 of the Student Senate Constitution was approved.

Student Senate meets weekly Thursdays at 3:45 p.m.. Their next meeting will be the first for their new term. Meetings are open to all members of the College community.
