Fine Print Magazine prepares to feature students’ creative work

As Elizabethtown College has just opened its doors once more for a new semester, it seems one group on campus has hit the ground running. Walking through the BSC you may have seen large banners and posters referring to an opportunity to submit for the “Fine Print Magazine”. Those posters refer to a magazine full of creative pieces and projects put together by students and staff alike. From poetry to paintings, this collection is a great representation of the college’s creative side. The magazine was open to all students and staff, and Feb. 7th was the final date for submissions.

This past week I had the opportunity to meet the Editor-In-Chief of Etown’s Fine Print Literary Magazine. Lucy Krug is not only a fourth-year occupational therapy major, but she also has been working tirelessly as the Editor-In-Chief of the magazine. Though her beginning with the group was less than conventional, it was in the midst of a pandemic and Zoom meetings where Krugfound her start. With a background and overall passion for poetry and creative writing, it seemed only fitting that she would find herself in the group. However, when she was a first-year the group was not what it is now. Starting with just 5 members when she began, the group has well over doubled in size! As an Editor-In-Chief, her role is definitely integral in the completion of the paper. In our conversation, she highlighted various duties such as the organizational component of putting together a collection like this for the magazine and the importance of the final eye over the various collections of writing.

The actual magazine will consist of a collection of Etown’s students, staff, and facultie’s submissions and work. These contents range in a variety of forms, whether it may be poetry or some other form of creative expression that can be displayed through the vehicle of the pages. In Krug’s own words, “Fine Print is designed to be a collection of the creative heartbeat here at Elizabethtown College.” And she could not be more right in that regard, looking over the prior magazine collections it doesn’t take long to acknowledge the power of these pieces. On that same thought, it also isn’t hard to see why this magazine has become such a tradition here at theCollege. With the opportunity for everyone on campus to submit projects, this collection accommodates part of the creativity that drives this campus.

As the spring semester continues, so will the work on this stunning magazine. But when will this collection be available? As of right now, it seems that the magazine is set to become available to the public just before finals. The magazine will be made available through print and through an online digital copy. Also , before the magazine releases, a celebration of the work  is being organized to take place. More information on that potential event and other information is on the way. If you have any further questions about the magazine, you may contact “fineprint@etown.edu”.
