Welcome to the Jungle

Welcome to the Jungle

Sandy Jr: Can’t you two do the interview without me? This is more your speed…

Cobalt: Oh, come on, Sandy Jr., it’ll be over before you know it.

Titania: I’m with them, Cobalt, I’d rather do anything else.

Cobalt: Fine, I’ll do it myself…Hi, everyone! I’m Cobalt, the other guppy is Titania and the snail is Sandy Jr. We just moved on campus last week and can’t wait to see what Elizabethtown College has in store. Well, I’m excited at least. Titania was here last year, but I’ll let him tell you about that.

Titania: There’s not much to tell, Cobalt. I moved in with our mom, Sandy, during her first year of college. I actually got kicked out early last spring semester because of some virus or something. I don’t know much about it, but the atmosphere on campus definitely changed from last school year.

Cobalt: Okay…anyway, I’m the newest addition to the family, with Titania being the oldest and Sandy Jr. being the middle child. We help our mom with her science studies since fish are the easiest thing to study. You’d be surprised about how much knowledge of biology is needed to maintain a fish tank. Our mom hopes to teach middle schoolers about biology and other science topics.

So far, I don’t have any complaints about our tanks. I love swimming around in our tank, wandering around taking in all the sights and sounds of our dorm. I think I love darting in and out of the plant leaves or hiding underneath the filter. The outtake of the water feels good on my scales. Titania and I play a game with our mom when she comes back to our dorm. We hide somewhere in our tank and see if she can find us. Don’t tell her this, but we’re usually underneath the filter.

Titania: Great, nice going, Cobalt, now she’ll always look there. You know what? My turn with this interview. If you haven’t figured it out, I’m Titania. I make sure everything runs smoothly in this tank since someone likes to wander around the tank. I ensure that our tank is in tiptop shape. No excess food to create too much nitrogen in the tank, Sandy Jr. eats all the algae, the plant produces oxygen for us, the usual. Oh, speaking of which, Sandy Jr., do you wanna add anything?

Sandy Jr.: No, I’m good.

Titania: I thought so…they’re a little shy, spending their time in their shell. Cobalt tries to play with them, but they immediately curl up, pretending they’re not there.  Well, that’s it really. I hope the semester goes better than last spring.

Cobalt: Of course, it is, Titania, we’re here now!
