Horoscopes: What flower are you based on your zodiac sign?

Have pigs finally learned to fly, Jays? Could it be that the sun has finally decided to make an appearance? Sure, we’ve had our fair share of rain this month, but you know what they say: “April showers bring May flowers.” The sun has shone its way through the clouds a few times, even if it did get covered up by the moon at one point. To celebrate the sun coming out to join us, this week’s edition of the Horoscopes is, what flower you are based on your zodiac sign. Aries: You are a lavender. This purple flower is indigenous to parts of Western Europe and part of the Mediterranean region. The Ancient Romans believed that it had healing properties and used it medicinally. Lavender represents devotion and grace. 

Taurus: You are an amaryllis.This tropical flower is native to western South Africa. It borrows its name from the Greek myth of Amaryllis and Alteo. These flowers were first grown commercially by the Dutch. The amaryllis is said to represent pride. 

Gemini: You are a nasturtium. This bright flower is native to South and Central America. In Europe, these flowers were brought over by a Dutch scientist and named “Capucine cresses” because they resemble the hood of Capuchin monks. Nasturtium represents a victory in battle. 

Cancer: You are a malva. This plant is native to Europe, Western Asia and north Africa. We get the color ‘mauve’ from the French name for the flower. People use malva to treat small cuts and burns. They represent defense or protection.

Leo: You are a tiger lily. Tiger lilies are indigenous to China, Japan, Korea and Eastern Russia. Some believe that putting tiger lilies in your house can ward away evil spirits. Tiger lilies represent wealth and prosperity. 

Virgo: You are a gladiolus flower. These flowers are native to Africa and Asia. Gladiolus flowers get their name from the Latin word for ‘sword’, probably because of how tall they are with an average height of 2-6 feet. The gladiolus flower represents loyalty.  

Libra: You are a lotus flower. White lotus are native to Africa, Asia and Australia while the pink lotus is only native to Australia. This flower has water purifying properties and is being used to clean polluted waters. The lotus represents enlightenment. 

Scorpio: You are a marigold. These flowers are subtropical and are native to Mexico. Marigolds are natural insect-repellents, so gardeners will plant them next to their more precious plants. The marigold represents passion and creativity. 

Sagittarius: You are an iris. They are native to the Northern Hemisphere and thrive in cold areas. This flower gets its name from Iris, the Greek goddess of the rainbow. Irises represent wisdom and hope. 

Capricorn: You are an aster flower. They are native to North America, Europe and Asia. In Greek, aster means star, appropriate considering the flower’s shape. Aster flowers represent patience and faith. 

Aquarius: You are a cattail. You can find cattails in wetlands located in the Northern Hemisphere. Fireworks sometimes use cattails because they are excellent firestarters. Cattails represent peace and prosperity. 

Pisces: You are a zinnia. They are native to North and South America and borrow their name from German botanist, Johann Gottfried Zinn. From 1931-1957, zinnias were Indiana’s state flower.  Zinnias represent goodness and lasting affection.
