Katie Kier, hailing from Reading, Pennsylvania, is an amazing example of Elizabethtown College’s wide variety of talented students.
Kier is a first-year Exercise Science major and a member of the women’s lacrosse team. Outside of athletics, Kier is also a member of the Exercise Science club on campus. Kier’s love for exercise science came from a lacrosse injury that happened during her senior year.
“I tore my ACL playing lacrosse and I had a really good physical therapist that made me want to be a physical therapist, so I chose exercise science with the dream of being a physical therapist for athletes,” she said. Her favorite part of exercise science so far is her Introduction to Exercise Science Professions class because of her “awesome” professor.
Outside of the classroom, Kier is a member of the women’s lacrosse team, where she plays defense. When asked about her favorite part of being on the lacrosse team, Kier shared that “Game days are the best!”
One of her favorite memories of playing lacrosse for Etown was “the first team lift. Everyone was so excited and ready to get back into the season, which made me excited to get back into playing.” The team’s hard work and excitement paid off after their 9-6 win this weekend!
Outside of sports and academics, Kier loves spending time on campus. The best part of living on campus, according to Kier, is “getting to see my friends every single day.” I wholeheartedly agree with Kier’s sentiment; that is also one of my favorite parts of living on campus.
“The small class sizes and the community at Elizabethtown are amazing. It’s a small school that has an emphasis on community and service, which was what I wanted. I also feel like I can connect with everyone because we are one big community,” Kier explained when asked why she chose Etown.
I believe Kier’s comment captures the essence of what it means to be a Blue Jay and the experience that comes with attending Etown.
One of Kier’s favorite facts to share about herself is that she is a triplet! She is the only girl, sandwiched between her older brother Gabriel, who is only a minute older, and her other brother Nathan.
Kier also has 3 pets back home; an English bulldog named Ricky, a pitbull named Lucy and a cat named Stitch. Another fun fact about Kier is that her favorite food item at the Marketplace is their chocolate chip cookies. Me too, Kier, me too.
Kier shared that some of the best advice she had ever gotten was, “Don’t worry about fitting in, just be yourself.” I think this is wonderful advice and I am so glad that Kier was able to share it with everyone. If you ever see Kier around campus or killing it on the lacrosse field, make sure you say hi!
