Etown away game weekend recap and updates

This past weekend, several of Elizabethtown College’s athletic teams traveled on the road to play their respective matches. The men’s and women’s track and field teams, the men’s and women’s tennis teams and women’s soccer team were scheduled to compete this weekend, hoping to capture wins before coming back home.

On Friday, Sept. 6, the men’s and women’s cross-country teams competed at Shippensburg University. The men’s team ran in the Piper Alumni Open/ XC Challenge and finished in second place with 56 points by the day’s end. Fourth-year Daniel Myers led the way for the Blue Jays, as he went on to win his second race of the young season. Second-year Will Inglis also netted a top 10 finish for the Jays. On the women’s side, the Blue Jays finished in third place in the meet with 69 points. Fifth-year seniorKelty Oaster also won her second race of the season. Third-year Gwen Young was the second-highest finishing Blue Jay when she crossed the line in 15th. Both team’s next meet is at home in the Alumni Challenge on September 14. 

The women’s tennis team was scheduled to play at Wilkes-Barre on Sept. 7 and 8 but the games were canceled due to inclement weather. Their next match will be an away meet, scheduled for Sept. 21 against Penn State Abington. This will be the Blue Jays first match of the season. Men’s tennis will play against Wilkes-Barre on Sept. 14. 

The women’s soccer team played at Lebanon Valley on Sept. 7 and won the game 2-1 to improve their record to 2-0-1. In the 65th minute, Fourth-year Ava Whisten scored the first goal of the game and her first goal of the season. 14 minutes later, fourth-year Marissa Vandernick also scored her first goal of the season to make it 2-0 in the game. Lebanon Valley scored a goal in the 88th minute. Fourth-year goalkeeper Adrienne McGallicher made two saves during the game to help the Blue Jays win. The Blue Jays next game is away at Gettysburg (0-2) on Sept. 11.

Next weekend, the men’s and women’s track and field teams and the women’s soccer team will be welcomed back home, as the men’s and women’s tennis will look to make up their invitational match against King’s College in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania.
