On Wednesday, Sept. 22, Elizabethtown College faced Wilson College in Chambersburg, Pa. At the end of the game, it was realized that junior Gianna Krinock had a match-high 10 kills as the Etown women’s volleyball team topped Wilson, 3-0, in non-conference action.
With the win, the Blue Jays record improves to six wins and four losses, while Wilson falls to zero wins and four losses overall.
During the match, senior Rileigh Hudock had a match-high 10 assists, meanwhile teammate sophomore Kambrie Hepler tallied nine digs.
In the opening set of the first match, Etown started out with an impressive run out to a 15-5 lead capped off by an ace from sophomore Katie Scaggs. The lead was also increased, due to back-to-back kills from freshman Lily Johnson and sophomore Georgianna Kahley.
The Blue Jays did not allow the Phoenixes to find any momentum in the first set and ended the first set with a final score 25 for Etown and 11 for Wilson.
Wilson started to come back in the second set and smashed an early three-point advantage (10 points to seven points).
Etown retaliated aggressively, and started on an exciting 15-3 run to take back complete control of the frame. As the second set was going on, first-year Karlee Ray tallied five kills throughout the match. The Blue Jays continued to rally to a 2-0 lead with a 25-17 win in the second.
This is the fifth consecutive straight-set victory of the season for Etown. During the third match, Etown started off strongly cruising out to an early 16-9 advantage in the set. The Phoenixes would not even come close to Etown’s lead. The Blue Jays completed their sixth win of the season with a 25-14 victory in the final set.
Etown returns to Thompson on Wednesday, Oct. 6 against Messiah College at 11 a.m.
