Tuesday, March 10, the Elizabethtown College women’s lacrosse team faced off against Immaculata University in a hard-fought match. Etown emerged with a large victory over Immaculata.
Before this game started, Etown had a 4-2 winning record against Immaculata. Now, Etown has a 5-2 winning streak. Here is what happened to cause the change in the streak: Etown College started the first half of the game strong with a score of 6-0 in the first seven minutes of the game. After a few more minutes, Immaculata started to come back and score. By this time, Etown had scored another two goals, bringing their total to eight goals.
Immaculata continued to score and eventually almost tied with Etown. Immaculata was still one goal behind Etown within the last four minutes of the first half. Etown was in the lead 8-7 by the end of the first half.
The second half was completely different from the first half. It was also more dynamic in the second half. In the second half, Elizabethtown played an even stronger offense and defense against Immaculata. The second half was the most crucial part of the game.
Etown played so well against Immaculata in the second half, that 11 goals were scored. During the second half, there was a four-minute span when a few key plays were made. In that four-minute time span, Etown went from being just a goal ahead of Immaculata to being up six goals after first-year Anna Charitonchick delivered a pass to junior Emily Garvin, who scored her second goal of the night.
Not only that but by the end of the game, junior Lexie Sharp finished with nine goals, which is more than the opposition scored. That ninth goal was her thirty-sixth goal of the season. She now has a grand total of 99 goals in her career and could hit the 100 goal mark at the next game.
Sharp also won 10 of the 13 draw controls for Etown. The final score of the game against Immaculata was 19-8. Etown was victorious.
The next women’s lacrosse game, which was supposed to be against Albright College Saturday, March 14, was postponed due to COVID-19, along with the next five games as well. The next game the Women’s Lacrosse team will play will be on Wolf Field against Drew College Saturday, April 11 at 1 p.m. This game will be a Landmark Conference game.
