The Elizabethtown College women’s field hockey team took home a victory with a score of 2-0 against Hood College after a long and relentless game on Saturday, Sept. 3. The game against Hood College showed off the girls’ skills as well as their driving force to work as a team.
The first two-quarters of the game were filled with a lot of defense and blocked shots. While the Blue Jays were able to demonstrate how well they work together, they were unable to get the ball past the Blazier’s goalie. However, within the first minute of the third quarter, the Jays were able to push through and conquer with the first score done by senior Sydney Aguilar.
In the fourth quarter, the game began to pick up in aggression and perseverance. The Jays were quick to protect their own and hustle down the field. With the assistance of graduate student Catherine Amos, senior Grace Hussey scored the second goal of the game.
The Blazier’s played a strong game against the Jays, but with a goalie like sophomore Rachel Murphy, their efforts were unsuccessful. The Jays’ defense was on the top of their game Saturday evening, and when it came down to it, they worked quickly and effectively as a team overall.
The Blue Jays win against the Blazers was their first win of the season, and they are all incredibly happy with the outcome. “We all fixed what we needed to and it was a total team effort,” Hussey said about their win. “We were hungry for a win, and after, we were happy with the outcome of the game.”
Their hard work and team effort definitely shined throughout this game. It was easy to see that these girls work extremely well together and are able to thrive under pressure. Hussey also mentioned how strongly they practiced in preparation for this game and how after the game they felt that it was “a big team win.”
Aguilar was eagerly agreeing with Hussey by saying, “We worked hard as a team against Hood and came out on top!” They most certainly did. Congratulations to the Elizabethtown College women’s field hockey team and let’s continue cheering for them as the season plays out.
