This week in sports, Tiger Woods is expected to travel to Augusta, Ga. The Masters Tournament starts Thursday, April 7 and ends Sunday, April 10. It is a world-renowned golf championship that was established 88 years ago in 1934. Other golfers attending are Shane Lowry, Min Woo Lee and Rory McIlroy. The Masters is the biggest stage for golf. The tournament is the first of four major championships. The other championships are the US open championship, the Open Championship, and the US PGA Championship. These championships, known as “The Majors,” are the most prestigious in golf.
In the world of professional horse racing, the Grand National is coming up. The Grand National is a professional hunt horse race that takes place annually in Liverpool, England at Aintree Racecourse. It’ll be going on from Thursday, April 7 until Saturday, April 9. The Grand National is one of England’s most prestigious horse races. Horses will race for about four miles while jumping 30 fences. The race will be just over two laps. This is a handicap steeplechase.
This is a big week when talking about NASCAR. From 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 6, Track Laps for Charity is happening on Martinsville Speedway. The Blue-Emu Maximum Pain Relief 200 starts at 8 p.m., where you can watch the Truck Series racing. Finally, on Saturday, April 9, tune in for the NASCAR Cup Series with the Blue-Emu Maximum Pain Relief 400.
Next up: baseball. This week has been a busy one for Major League Baseball. Spring Training started March 17. The Phillies have a few games this week. One is against the Rays on Wednesday, April 6 at 12:35 p.m. There’s another game against the Athletics Friday, April 8 at 3:05 p.m. There’ll be two more games against the Athletics on Saturday and Sunday at 4:05 p.m. and 1:05 p.m., respectively. On Monday, April 11 through next Wednesday, April 13, the Phillies will be playing against the Mets. On Monday and Tuesday they’ll be playing at 6:45 p.m. Finally, next Wednesday, April 13 they’ll be playing at 1:05 p.m.
Finally, basketball. This week the Philadelphia 76ers are playing the Toronto Raptors, the Indiana Pacers and the Detroit Pistons. The game against the Raptors will be played at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 7. Next, the game against the Indiana Pacers will be played at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 9. Finally, on Sunday, April 10 the 76ers are playing against the Pistons. The game will start at 7 p.m.
