Starting with a conversation with Elizabethtown College President Cecelia McCormick, the new True Blue initiative was created. This initiative will feature one regular home season game for each athletic team against the team’s strongest opponent or an important game that will rally around the community.
Students, faculty, staff and community members are encouraged to come out to each game to support the athletic team playing.
Promotional items will be given out to people who come out to cheer on the Blue Jays. The initiative was put together with the help of the Assistant Director of Student Activities Zac Pace and Director of Athletics Chris Morgan. Pace described the idea behind True Blue as “showcasing Etown,” supporting each other’s peers and celebrating Etown. The initiative is trying to create community in Elizabethtown, with Morgan saying it “builds on school spirit.”
The first True Blue event will be Etown women’s soccer game against Susquehanna University Saturday, Sept. 28 at 4 p.m.
Along with this being the first True Blue, it is also the Landmark home opener for the team, and Susquehanna are the reigning champs.
Women’s Soccer Coach Amy Hough explained that the team having a home field advantage is a huge aspect as is the atmosphere.
“Crowd support is huge,” Hough said. Students rallying behind the team is always important.
The True Blue initiative is building the relationships in Etown as well as showing what the community at Etown is made of.
“I’m really excited and hope for a loud student section,” Hough said.
