The Hershey Bears look for their 3,000th win

The Hershey Bears dropped their seventh straight road game against the Charlotte Checkers on Saturday, April 2, where the final score was 3-1. This is also the Hershey Bears’ fourth consecutive loss overall.

The game was tied at 1-1 going into the third period after two breakaway saves from Pheonix Copley. Then a power-play let Charlotte take the lead at the 2:46 mark as Zac Dalpe was able to score making the score 2-1 in favor of charlotte in the third period. Heresy would pull Dalpe late in the third for an extra attacker as they looked to tie the game again. They were unable as Cole Schwindt finished the win for Charlotte with an empty net goal to make it 3-1 at the 18:22 mark of the third.

Hershey’s struggles began early in the game as on the third power play of the game the checkers would open the scoring. While Hershey was caught in a line change, the Checkers took a two-on-one advantage. Scott Wilson took the shot to open the scoring at the 19:20 mark of the first period with Cale Fleury and Connor Carrick assisting on the play.

During the second period, Hershey was able to tie the game. This was thanks to forward Brett Leason’s third goal of the season. Leason was passed the puck by Alex Alexeyev which allowed Leason to race down the right wing and snapped the puck at the goal. The puck went over the glove of Charlotte goaltender Joey Daccord to even the score.

Copley managed to stop 37 of 39 shots in the loss to Charlotte as Charlotte led the shots on goal 40-21. Charlotte had more success in the power play than Hershey as they went two for four on the power play while Hershey was zero for four. The Hershey Bears will face off against the Springfield Thunderbirds on Saturday, April 9. Hershey is also still looking for their 3,000 total win as they currently sit at 2,999 and a win makes them the first AHL team to hit 3,000 wins.
