The Hershey Bears scored a 2-1 victory at Bridgeport last Friday, March 11. Defenseman Lucas Johansen scored the first goal for Hershey, shooting the puck into the net at only 5 minutes and 4 seconds into the game to give the Bears an early 1-0 lead. It was the first time Hershey has scored in the game’s first period in a series of five games. Center Jeff Kubiak tied the game for Bridgeport at 12 minutes and 29 seconds of the period, but nine seconds later Hershey scored. Left winger Beck Malenstyn responded to give Hershey a 2-1 lead. That would be the final score of the game in Friday’s game, as goaltender Pheonix Copley stopped 27 shots for the Bears to earn the win. Hershey did not have a single power play in the game.
The Hershey Bears are also in a really interesting position right now. They are getting close to having a 3,000 total win record. The Bears continue the 2021-22 season with a trip to Canada to play three games this week. They have won three straight games the last time they went out to Canada. They are scheduled to play again in Toronto facing off against the Toronto Marlies on Thursday afternoon, March 17, and will visit Belleville and face off against the Belleville Senators Friday evening, March 18, before finishing with a mid-day contest at Laval against the Laval Rockets on Saturday, March 19. Hershey enters this week with 2,998 wins in franchise history, and the Bears will look to become the first AHL team to hit 3,000 wins with a pair of victories in Canada.
