Thursday, March 12, following other school closings, Elizabethtown College planned to close its doors due to COVID-19 from Friday, March 13 to Friday, April 3. This decision followed Governor Tom Wolf’s call for social distancing during this crisis. Along with students needing to move off campus and all on-campus activities being canceled for those three weeks, all athletic games and competitions have been canceled.
As many Landmark Conference schools started making the decision to close their doors for the time being, the Landmark Conference made a statement on Twitter, postponing all Landmark Conference play from Saturday, March 14 until Sunday, April 5.
Along with the Landmark Conference, the NCAA Division III, which Etown athletics are under, also made a statement on Twitter. In the statement, the NCAA says it is granting “an additional season/semester for student-athletes participating in spring sports.” There is no information at this time concerning students who are planning to graduate.
Although at this time things are still very unclear, we will keep you up-to-date on any new updates concerning student-athletes at Etown. To find more information from either source mentioned above, please follow the Twitter page for the Landmark Conference at @LandmarkConf or the NCAA Division III @NCAADIII.
