The Landmark Conference leadership groups continue to converse in order to discuss how to best re-begin college athletics amidst COVID-19 risks. At the moment, there are still plans to return to athletics the 2021 spring semester, provided safety precautions are taken and there is not a significant spike in cases of COVID-19. The Landmark plans to sponsor conference play and championships only if universities continue to follow state guidelines to create a safe environment for players and staff. The conference also plans to follow the NCAA’s Sport Science Institute’s guidelines as plans are created on how to resume play.
The focus of competition will be a regular season schedule with an expanded postseason tournament for all team sports. Tentative league schedules for men’s and women’s basketball and Championship updates for swimming & diving and indoor track & F field will be released by Dec. 4; any changes to the dates for women’s golf, men’s golf or outdoor track & field will also be released by January. It is ultimately up to each individual college institution whether they decide to participate in playoffs in the spring; should any institutions opt out of play, the conference is prepared to adjust schedules and plans accordingly. Stay tuned for more updates.
