On Saturday, April 17 the Elizabethtown College softball team played two back-to-back games against Susquehanna University. Etown lost both games. During the first game, within the first inning Susquehanna was up one to nothing. Two more innings were played until the game was tied by first-year Maddie Reever walking and senior Megan Thomas batting at 1-1 during the fourth inning. At this point, it was anyone’s game.
In the sixth inning, Susquehanna took the lead with 2-1. The game ended in the seventh inning with Susquehanna winning the first game. In this game, first-year Mikaela Benner had nine strikeouts. This is her highest number of strikeouts this season at Etown.
Graduate student Paige Phillips had her 100th hit of her softball career at Etown. This was a commendable accomplishment, given the loss to Susquehanna. She is pictured above after such an achievement was made in her softball career.
Following the first game, the second game was not much better for our Blue Jays. This game began at 3 p.m. on April 16 on the Etown softball field, directly following the conclusion of the first game. Right off the bat, Susquehanna made six runs in the first inning. This gave them a head start to win the second game.
Our Blue Jays were not able to gain any points at this point. Susquehanna had four runs in the third inning and two runs in the fourth inning. Reever had the only hit in four innings for Etown. Thomas also made a hit during the second game. This brought our Blue Jays to a score of 0-12.
We wish our Etown softball luck in their future games!
