If a college or a university has a sports program, they will most likely have a Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). The SAAC works with the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) to give updates on rules, among other things. The SAAC at Elizabethtown College is no different. However, there is one major difference that sets the SAAC at Etown apart from other colleges and universities. According to Director of Athletics Chris Morgan, the SAAC at Etown “also works to integrate ourselves into our campus and local community, especially looking to live our college’s Educate for Service motto through different service initiatives.”

Educate for Service is Elizabethtown College’s motto, and it is a generally understood principle that the community follows through on it. The SAAC at Elizabethtown College is no exception. The SAAC on campus has done some pretty interesting things, and one of the biggest, according to Morgan, are “the Special Olympics Swim Meet, Food Recovery Network and fundraising for the Blue Jay Pantry on campus.” That is just some of the things that the SAAC has done. They also discuss which kinds of sporting events happen on campus.

As it happens, Fall sports were postponed until December, but the SAAC managed to follow through on intramurals. The SAAC recently had a meeting where it was decided there is going to be an intramural cornhole tournament Friday, Oct. 2.

Etown SAAC meetings happen biweekly and are open to all student athletes. For more information about the SAAC, visit https://etownsaac.wordpress.com/about/.
