Elizabethtown College has events for students and faculty to help support causes on campus. The Rowvember challenge is an event that can improve your mental and physical health.
When students are in their room doing homework, they may like to step away from the books and go to an activity. Something that they may do is go exercise, whether it is going for a run or going to the gym. In the last few years, people have grown a liking to exercising after the COVID-19 pandemic, with people gaining weight in quarantine and wanting to get in shape. The Rowvember challenge will help with getting in shape and will fulfill mental and physical goals.
Rowvember is an event that has been created for students and faculty to come and compete for their physical and mental health. This takes place in the one of the newest additions to campus, the Bowers Center for Sports, Fitness and Well-being, and the event is all November long. This challenge tests how much someone has grown or how they could grow more in a specific aspect of exercising.
“The prize to the winner of this challenge is an indoor rower machine,” Bowers Center employee and Rowvember participant Dylan Waller said.
This prize could inspire someone who wants to start getting fit on a rowing machine. This is also an excellent gift for someone who prefers to workout in their home rather than a gym. Winning this prize also brings many people from other than the College campus who want to participate in Rowvember. Nowadays, people want to relax and not care about what they may look like.
“The physical health will be used for rowing as it is a whole-body workout. Mental health is a big part of working out because when you feel good working out, your mental health will benefit,” Waller said.
This boost of confidence supports the College community and creates a new habit that benefits physical and mental health. This challenges someone’s health, and it can be something that encourages a new path in life. Mental and physical health go with each other in most aspects of life, especially with something like working out. Studies show that exercise is proven to help with mental health, Rowvember helps balance your well-being.
Rowvember is an excellent way to get people out of their comfort zone and find new habits that could benefit them in the future. Exercising is a way of releasing extra energy and anger that could detriment someone physically and mentally. This event could bring boosters for the school and raise money for more significant events held in the Bowers Center and other buildings throughout campus.
