The National Basketball Association (NBA) season will resume this year because players came to an agreement to do so. Whether the NBA would finish out its season became uncertain after the Milwaukee Bucks opted to skip game five against the Orlando Magic on Aug. 26 in order to bring attention to police brutality and racial injustice, prompting several other games scheduled that in the day to be cancelled.

Teams held a meeting less than twenty-four hours after the cancellation at Walt Disney World Resort, where they discussed plans on how to go about continuing the season and implementing new ways to bring about racial justice and police reform. The league also agreed to support the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act, which seeks to fight police brutality and bring reform to the policing model.

In the midst of the protests, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver was recently asked how he thinks next season will look with the push for social reform in the NBA. “I expect it will manifest itself in different ways,” he stated in USA Today. “I do want people to see this as the values of this league.”
