On Nov. 3, the Elizabethtown College men’s wrestling team traveled to Shippensburg, Pa. to face off against Shippensburg University. Etown won nine of 10 matches to top Division II Shippensburg, 38 points to three points on Wednesday evening.
With the win, the Blue Jays open the season with a record of one win and no losses orties.
The Blue Jays won five of the nine matches by major decision.
Sophomore Ethan Liptzin got the matches started for the Blue Jays at 125, topping Seth Bloomquist by major decision, 11-2, for the 4-0 advantage.
Sophomore Domenick Rodriguez tallied the lone pin of the night at 133, dropping Josh Jackson 4:28 into the bout pushing the advantage to 10.
After Rupp took 141 by forfeit, sophomore Dorian Gonzalez kept the bonus points coming, scoring the major decision against DeAndre Reed to keep the shutout alive for Etown, 20-0.
Juniors Shane Strausser and Brian Schneider and sophomore Traisach Roland all secured major decisions at their weight class as well to bring the Blue Jays’ lead to 32-0.
Senior Hunter Beaudet ground out the first decision of the night, topping Drake Brenize at 184 to up the advantage to 35-0.
After the Raiders found their first three points of the night at 197, sophomore Dylan Waller completed the match with a 8-3 decision over Danny Scheib to lock up the 38-3 win.
The men’s wrestling team returns to the mat on Saturday, Nov. 6 at the Messiah Invitational at Messiah University in Mechanicsburg, Pa. First bouts start at 9 a.m.
