Men’s Swimming dominates over Wilkes and Stevenson

On Nov. 13, in Owings Mills. Md. the Elizabethtown College’s men’s swim team returned home after a dominating performance as they defeated host Stevenson University with a final score of 136 to Etown and 66 for Stevenson. Etown also dominated over Wilkes University with a final score of 167 for Etown and 24 for Wilkes. Etown first-year Leif Hoffman broke the program record in the 1000m freestyle for the third time this season, clocking in at 10 minutes and 07.08 seconds. Hoffman’s time also moves him to the No. 1 spot in the Landmark Conference this week.

Etown won the first event of the day, the 200-medley relay. Hoffman claimed first with a record-breaking time in the 1000 freestyle. Hoffman was quick to add another first place to his day as he clocked in at 1 minute, 53.53 seconds in the 200 freestyle, while Fitzgerald came in with a time of 1 minute and 55.75 seconds.

In the 50 freestyle, First Year Austin Smith with a time of 23.03 seconds finished second while teammate sophomore Liam Quick with a time of 24.03 seconds finished third. Quick’s time is a season best for him. The Blue Jays took the top three spots in the 200 IM with First year Nicholas Carter leading the way clocking in at 2 minutes 10.98 seconds. Junior Alex Waskiewicz and teammate sophomore Zain Wegman finished second and third. In the 100 meter butterfly, Smith finished second while teammate sophomore AJ West finished third. In the 100 meter freestyle, Fitzgerald finished second coming in with a time of 52.65 seconds and teammate sophomore Jack Venza finished third with a time of 54.81.

Sophomore Franky Swain claimed first in the 100 meter backstroke clocking in at 57.64 seconds. Hoffman rounded out his day with another first place in the 500 free with a time of 4:58.33. Meanwhile, teammate sophomore Robert Midura finished second in the event touching the wall at 5 minutes and 18.65 seconds. Sophomore Connor Oswald and Wegmen went 1-2 in the 100 breaststroke.

The Blue Jays travel to Catholic University on Nov. 19th at 1 p.m.
