On Wednesday, Oct. 20, the Elizabethtown College Soccer team faced off against Moravian College. During the game, first-year Jake Groh found the equalizing goal late in the second half, as Etown tied Moravian 1-1 in Landmark Conference action.
With the draw, the Blue Jays move to eight wins, four losses and two ties overall, and three wins, one loss and one tie in the league. The Greyhounds are now at five wins, eight losses and three ties overall, and no wins, four losses and one tie in conference play.
Groh tallied his second goal of the season helped along by assists from junior Mehluko Letsoalo and first-year Cade Brubaker.
Sophomore Zach Nicholas scored for Moravian. First-year Kyle Weiss and sophomore Donald Gibbs each had an assist for the visitors.
The Greyhounds found the first goal of the game late in the first half as Gibbs collected an attempted clearance by Etown and passed it to Weiss in the right corner. Weiss hit a service into the box and Etown’s junior goalkeeper Kelvin Del Cid rose up to meet the ball. Del Cid, however, could not cleanly handle the cross, falling to Nicholas who buried it into the back of the net for the one goal lead heading into halftime.
It looked as if Moravian was going to sneak out of town with its first win of the season before the Blue Jays found their first goal in the 87th minute. Brubaker collected the ball at midfield and knocked the ball into the middle of Greyhound’s penalty box. Letsoalo rose up and headed the ball down to Groh who fired home the tying goal, forcing overtime.
Del Cid made six saves while senior Mason LeSage of Moravian College was forced to make three.
Etown hit the road for its final away game of the season on Saturday, Oct. 23 against Drew University. Kickoff was set for 5 p.m.
