Sunday Sept. 5, the Elizabethtown College men’s soccer team improved to 2-0 on the season with a final score of 1-0 win over Bridgewater College, securing head coach Skip Roderick his 550th career win on the final day of the Brothers Pizza Soccer Classic Tournament.

With the two wins on the weekend, Roderick now has a 550-161-68 career coaching record, all with the Blue Jays. He has the second most wins at the Division III level, trailing only Jay Martin of Ohio Wesleyan, and is eighth across all divisions.

Junior Ryan Hepler scored the only goal of the game for Etown, which was also his first of the season, while senior Garret Winchilla tallied his second assist of the year.

The Blue Jays found the lone goal in the first half as Winchilla settled a bouncing ball and dribbled along the end line. He fired a cross to the penalty spot where Hepler one-timed the service into the roof of the net for the one goal advantage in the 32nd minute.

The Etown defense held extremely strong the rest of the way, holding the Eagles to just two total shots and preserving the Blue Jays first shutout of the season.

Sophomore Kelvin Delcid earned his seventh clean sheet of his career, making one singular save. Freshman Charles Schweinefuss, the goalie for Bridgewater made one save in the loss.

As the game was going on, there was a lot of excitement from the fans.

“The most exciting parts [of the game] were when Etown attempted for goals! This was [because] the whole audience would cheer and it made the game more thrilling [to watch],” junior Aryana Alidjani said.

The Blue Jays hit the road for the first time this season on Wednesday, Sept. 8 to take on King’s College. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
