On Saturday, Oct. 29 in Towson Md., the Landmark Conference Championships for men’s cross country was held, hosted by Goucher College. Sophomore Brandon Baxter led the way for the Elizabethtown College men’s cross-country team, being one of four Blue Jays to finish in an All-Conference position as Etown placed third out of six with a total of 61 points.
Etown was not at full strength going into this tournament. This was a direct result of missing a pair of runners from the top five on the team. Despite this, Etown still ran at the meet, stepping up to give the Jays a chance at reclaiming their crown.
Baxter placed seventh in the 8k championship race with a final time of 26 minutes and 23 seconds to earn All-Conference First Team honors.
The remaining four scoring members all crossed one behind the other. Senior Matt Fick was at the head of that group, taking 12th place, as well as finishing second for Etown with a final time of 26 minutes and 50.8 seconds. Right behind Fick was sophomore Christian Gingrich in 13th place with a time of 26 minutes and 53.8 seconds.
Senior Devon Soto placed 14th as he, Fick, and Gingrich were all Second Team honorees for their placement. Meanwhile, sophomore Daniel Myers finished in 15th place to round out the Jays’ scoring.
Shane Houghton of Moravian was this year’s individual champion as the Greyhounds placed 1-2-3 to win the team championship with 33 points. Catholic was second with 42.
The Blue Jays will compete next at
the NCAA Division III Mid-Atlantic Regional meet on Saturday, Nov. 12.
