On April 19 and 20, the Elizabethtown College men and women’s track and field teams competed at the Mason-Dixon Invitational at Gettysburg College, in Gettysburg, Pa. The men’s team won one event and placed eight out of the 13 schools competing. The women’s team won two events and placed third out of the 10 schools competing.
Players Ashton Fasig, Logan Freyermuth, Myron Holland Jr. and Matt Lamb brought home the Etown men’s only win during the 4x100m with a time of 43.09. However, other Blue Jays certainly got close to that first place win. In the high jump, Malik Hudges placed second with 1.92m.
Other notable events include the pole vaulters, who all placed. Keagan Kinney took home fifth, Evan Seagreaves placed seventh and Dorian Gonzalez placed ninth. In the high jump, Will Davis placed third with 5.90m, and in the javelin event, Aspen Stahl-Emig also took third place with 44.07m.
The women’s team had two winners: Ash Rich and the Etownian’s own Managing Editor and the Landmark Women’s Field Athlete of the Week, DaniRae Renno. Rich, who also placed eighth in the pole vault, won the high jump and set a personal best of 1.57m. She is now tied for seventh of all time. Renno won the discus at 38.25m. She also placed second in the hammer while setting a new personal record at 40.88m. Renno also placed fifth in the shot put.
Player Kate Bendall also enjoyed her own wins. While also placing second in the long jump and triple jump, Bendall set personal bests. With 4.96m in the long jump, her score jumps up to the eighth of all time. Although her triple jump record remains fourth of all time, Bendall increased it with her 10.98m.
Several events would see Blue Jays placed. The 100m had Caleigh Bold with second place and Jarrett Wagner with third. The 3k steeple featured Ellie Heilman in second and Maeve Keefe in third. Trinity Faulpel also took home a second-place win in the 100m hurdles. Both Mylea Neidig, in the shot put, and Erin Miller, in the javelin event, finished third. In the 4×100 race, Bold, Faulpel, Sara Rich and Wagner placed third.
Overall, the women’s team had 13 top-three finishes.
The men and women’s track and field teams next meet is on May 4-5 for the Landmark Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships, which the College will be hosting. Adult tickets are 10 dollars.
