This week, March Madness continued on Sunday, March 20, with eight more second-round games for the NCAA’s Men’s Basketball tournament as well as eight second-round games for the Women’s tournament. It all started with the ninth seeded team, Texas Christian University.
TCU took its loss in an upset towards the very end of the suspenseful game, but top-seeded Arizona came back in overtime to beat TCU. With this win, TCU has secured a spot in the Sweet 16 with an 85-80 win in San Diego.
Coach Jim Larrañaga of Miami also faced off against Auburn this week. Miami finished the game with a win. Miami is currently ranked 10th seed, and Auburn is ranked second seed. Miami triumphed over Auburn in convincing fashion, with four of five starters finishing in double figures.
No. 11 seed Iowa State continued its storybook tournament run with a five-point victory over Wisconsin, which is currently ranked number three in the tournament right now.
Also in the headlines for the men’s matchups of the week this week, Coach Mike Krzyzewski of Duke faced off and beat Michigan State in an exciting game. The final score was 85-76, a victory for Duke in the second round.
The second-seeded Villanova men’s team moved on to the Sweet 16 with a ten point victory against Ohio State. That was followed by a 68-53 victory against Illinois.
The current Women’s No. 1 overall seed South Carolina followed up a huge victory over Howard University. This was followed up with another huge win against Miami.
The women’s tournament was just as exciting this week. It all started with two big shockers within the span of a few hours. South Dakota, which is currently in the 10th seed, wound up building an early double digit lead and destroyed Baylor College in Waco, Tex., while fellow underdog Creighton University triumphed over Caitlin Clark University and Iowa, which is currently in the second seed on the Hawkeyes’ home court.
