On Saturday, Oct. 16 in Selinsgrove, Pa., the Elizabethtown College field hockey team faced off against Susquehanna College. The Blue Jays ultimately lost the game.
First-year Riley Stephan produced her second goal of the season for the team, which tied the game in the first quarter. However, a third-quarter goal by the River Hawks proved to be the difference as Susquehanna went on to win, 2-1.
On a restart of play on the team sideline, junior Grace Hussey moved the ball ahead to junior Sydney Aguilar. Aguilar took a few touches before passing up to senior Grace Hardy as she headed into the circle. Hardy took a shot that went into the goal, off the goalie’s pads, and right to an unguarded Stephan, who easily scored her second of the season to tie the game at 1-1.
Neither side scored in the second quarter as Etown outshot the River Hawks 3-2 in the quarter and had a slight edge, 4-3, at halftime.
Susquehanna came out with a point to prove in the third, not allowing a shot to Etown while scoring one of their own. Senior Sam Banks recorded her fifth of the season and the River Hawks’ defense made that goal stand up as they closed the door on the Blue Jays’ offense.
Overall, the Blue Jays scored four shots and eight saves compared to 15 shots and three saves from the River Hawks.
The field hockey team will have the week off before hosting Drew University on Senior Day, Saturday, Oct. 23, at 1 p.m. on Wolf Field.
