On Saturday, March 19, the Elizabethtown College women’s lacrosse team faced off on Wolf Field against Misericordia University in a hard-fought match. At the end of the game, the final score was 17-3, with the Cougars of Misericordia coming out on top. The Blue Jays now have a 1-6 record and the Cougars hold a 3-3 record.

Junior Anna Charitonchick started the game off strong for the Blue Jays with an early lead. Charitonchick scored her fourth goal of the 2022 season less than two minutes into the game from a tough angle behind the goal. After a short two minutes, Misericordia would respond with a goal, leading them to a 13-0 run of goals over the next two quarters.

The second quarter was the strongest for the Cougars, scoring a total of six unanswered goals. In the third quarter, Etown was able to hold them to two goals, but were not able to produce any of their own, leaving them behind 1-13 going into the final quarter of the game.

The final quarter was hard-fought, with graduate student Kate Ziegler scoring twice for the Blue Jays. She started off with the first goal of the quarter, scoring a little under four minutes in. With a response from the Cougars a minute and a half later, she retaliated again shortly after with her second goal. Junior Hannah Cressman assisted on both tallies for Ziegler. The Cougars were able to score four of their own in the final quarter, leading them to a 17-3 victory over the Blue Jays.

Throughout the game, there were 52 total shots, 16 coming from Etown and 36 shot by Misericordia. The two stand-out scorers for Misericordia were Genevieve Montanye and Michelle Torzilli, each with four goals. Justice Johnson followed shortly behind with two goals.

In the past, the Etown Women’s Lacrosse team has beaten Misericordia three times, and now carries one loss against them. The last time the two teams have crossed paths was in March of 2011.
