This past weekend, on Oct. 21 and 22, the Elizabethtown College men’s and women’s golf teams traveled to East Stroudsburg, Pa. for the Landmark Conference Championship Preview. The teams took to the course at the Shawnee-On-The-Delaware Inn and Golf Club as they started to wrap up their seasons.
The men’s team took seventh place out of nine schools in the event at +63. Drew University ran away with the win, finishing at eleven strokes over par for the weekend.
Sophomore Chris Kilduff finished close to par for the weekend, shooting nine strokes over for the best Blue Jay finish in the event. Kilduff sunk one birdie over the eighteen holes on the ninth hole on Saturday. Other than that, the sophomore was putting in for par for most holes, shooting a 76 for the course that day. He then shot a 77 on Sunday for a 153 total.
Senior David Fetzer finished with the second best overall score for the Blue Jays this weekend at +15 with a score of 75 on Saturday and an 84 on Sunday. Outside of one triple bogey, Fetzer had a solid showing on the front nine that included two birdies on holes two and nine on Saturday. On the back nine that day, the senior remained consistent with mostly pars. Sunday was a bit of a struggle, but he still finished in the top 20 in 17th.
Sophomore John Harrison, senior Matt Barosi and senior Will Holdren were the other Blue Jays to take the course this past weekend. Harrison finished seventeen over par. Holdren was six strokes behind Harrison at +23, bouncing back from shooting an 86 on Saturday to an 81 on Sunday. For Barosi, the senior finished +28 by the weekend’s end. He was consistent over the weekend with scores of 85 and 87.
The women’s team finished in seventh place out of seven teams in their event, shooting 437 over par and a 1013 total score. Catholic University took home the victory, as they shot 72 over par for the weekend.
Sophomore Jillian Schwarz led the Blue Jays with a score of +89 which earned her 28th place in the competition. The three other Blue Jays in this event included first-year Ariunzaya Battur who shot 106 over par for 31st for the two day event, senior Lisa Scanlon was just one spot behind Battur with a 109 over par and senior Christina Mood who shot 133 over par by the end of the weekend for a 277 overall score.
For the women’s team, this marks the end of their season. The men’s team had one more match before the end of theirs against Lebanon Valley College. This one was in Lebanon, Pa. at the Lebanon Valley Country Club for the Lebanon Valley Invitational on Monday, Oct. 23 at 12 p.m.
