Elizabethtown College Athletics had a strong weekend on the road, racking up victories and performances to place them in the right position for the postseason ahead. Let’s take a look back at all the games over the weekend and highlight the achievements the teams brought home.
Field Hockey: Etown took on the Goucher College Gophers this weekend in Baltimore, Maryland, and ended with an impressive 4-0 road victory. Three minutes into the game, sophomore midfielder Hannah Long scored a goal off an assist by senior forward Riley Stephan. In the second quarter, the team had nine shots on goal; however, they moved into the half up 1-0. The Blue Jays scored right out of the gate after the halftime break, with an unassisted goal from junior midfielder Rachel Troutman. Troutman scored her second goal of the game and the quarter off an assist by Stephan to extend the lead once more. The Blue Jays’ final goal of the game came off a score by first-year midfielder Hailey Meyer off an assist from Long to finish the game with a statement victory. Etown will play their next game at Juniata College on Tuesday for the regular season finale.
Men’s Golf: After the first day of the Landmark Conference Championship Preview, Etown moved into day two in second place of the eight competing teams. Blue Jays’ junior John Harrison led the field with par over the first 18 holes, continuing a strong season for him individually. Junior Chris Kilduff is tied for second individually with a +2 on the day, and junior Drew Byrd sits seventh with a +5. Sophomore Dylan Poalucci is tied for 29th with a +10 and freshman Jeremy Otto is tied for 39th with a +15. The team finished the preview third after Kilduff moved to second place overall, shooting 149. Harrison finished fifth overall with a 152, Byrd tied for 15th with a 157, Poalucci tied for 31st with a 164 and Otto placed 38th shooting 170.
Women’s Volleyball: The Blue Jays took on Goucher College on the road this weekend and walked away with a 3-0 victory over the Gophers for another Landmark Conference victory. Etown came out hot in the first set, winning 25-5. They finished the next two sets with victories of 25-15 and 25-19 to sweep Goucher in three sets. The Blue Jays were led by junior setter Kate Barbon and first-year outside hitter Lucy Stanek, who both had 9 kills. Senior Gracie Britton contributed 5 kills and 2 blocks for the Jays en route to their victory Saturday. Etown will play their next home game against Rutgers-Camden on Nov. 10.
Women’s Golf: Three golfers competed this past weekend for the women’s golf team at the Landmark Conference Preview. Senior Grace Flocco led the charge for the Blue Jays, placing 18th overall and shooting 187. Junior Alayna Kichman tied for 25th, shooting a 202 and Jillian Schwartz placed 38th with a 229 on the weekend.
