Friday, Sept. 20, the Elizabethtown College cross country teams hosted the Elizabethtown Short Course Invitational at the Union Canal Tunnel Park.
The men’s team had a total of 72 points and placed third place out of the nine teams that participated. Senior Samuel Gerstenbacher came in second place for the men’s 6k race and was the leader of the Blue Jays. His finishing time was 18:35.41, which is his third fastest top two finish for the season.
Senior Christopher Myers placed two Blue Jays in the top 10; he placed sixth. Senior Liam Coverdale was 15th. The last two runners for the men’s team placed two seconds apart. Sophomore Will Schoener placed 25th while junior Colm Smith placed 26th.
The women’s team also placed third place with a total score of 75 points. Sophomore Melissa Fitzgibbon was the top finisher for the team; she came in sixth place with a finishing time of 18:02.17. Senior Erin Doherty crossed the line in 13th place with a time of 18:35.72.
Junior Kaitlin Donahue and sophomore Brooklyn Wiley took 15th and 16th place, only running a few seconds apart.
Both teams will be at the Paul Short Invitational hosted by Lehigh University Friday, Oct. 5, with races starting at 9:30 a.m.
