Born to run

Only one question by author Christopher McDougall causes an adventure of a lifetime. That question is, “Why does my foot hurt?”

“Born To Run” tells the story of author McDougall and his adventure. He started running in the beginning, but he could not go very far, because his foot would always start to hurt. So, after visiting doctors and trying to figure out why his foot hurts all the time whenever he runs, he hears about this tribe called the Tarahumara.

The Tarahumara are an indiginous tribe located in Mexico’s Copper Canyons. They have honed a very unique skill set. According to the book, they have somehow miraculously honed the skill of ultra-running, the ability to run hundreds of miles without stopping or resting. There are scientific studies of people besides the Tarahumara that have been able to accomplish quite a feat, but the Tarahumara were the ones that discovered the ability first.

“Born To Run” takes the reader through various parts of the United States and Mexico, as McDougall tries to figure out how they are able to do this. It also talks about how to properly train, and how some ultra-runners are able to accomplish this feat. At the end of the book, and after training with the Tarahumara, there is a race in which the author runs against the Tarahumara. Who wins? You will have to read the book to find out.
