The Blue Jays (7-4) baseball team hosted the Scranton University Royals (6-2) for the first at-home games of the season. On Saturday, March 16 the first game of the series was played followed by a doubleheader on Sunday. In the first game of the series, the Blue Jays lost 5-4 despite leading in a few innings during the game. The Royals scored three runs in the first inning. The Blue Jays responded and tied the game in the third inning with two scoring singles by second-year Alex Perrin and fourth-year Garrett Schwartzbeck. The Blue Jays took the lead in the sixth with another scoring single by Schwartzbeck. Blue Jays starting pitcher third-year Greg Zerbe allowed three runs. The Royals, however, scored in the eighth and ninth innings and took the series’ first game.
The Royals took the second game of the series on Sunday, March 17 in the morning, in a game that lasted for 3 hours and 18 minutes. They beat the Blue Jays 10-6. The Blue Jays took the lead in the second inning with a sacrifice fly by fourth-year A.J. Bednar. The Royals took the lead in the second inning. Blue Jays starting pitcher first-year Joey Smith allowed five runs in the game. In the eighth inning, the Royals were able to score five runs while the bases were loaded. The Blue Jays scored two runs in the eighth inning. Second-years Mason Woolwine and David Woolley both hit triples to drive in the runs.
The Blue Jays had a commanding victory in the second game of the doubleheader and the final game of the series to avoid the sweep by the Royals. The Blue Jays won 14-4. The Royals took the lead in the first, but second-years Alex McClain and Quinten Perilli homered in the third to take over the lead. The Blue Jays scored three more runs in the third with a single by fourth-year Bryce Keller with the bases loaded and a ground out by Perrin brought in another run. Blue Jays pitcher third-year Kyle Mulville allowed the only four runs scored by the Royals in his start. The Blue Jays scored five runs in the eighth inning to seal the victory over the Royals. The Blue Jays’ scoring started with a solo home run by second-year Chance Montgomery. Then Woolwine scored on a wild pitch, followed by Keller’s three-run home run. This sealed the victory for the Blue Jays. The Blue Jays record improved to 8-6 after the series ended. The Blue Jays next game is away, facing the Catholic University Cardinals on March 19.
