Student Senate met for their weekly meeting Thursday, Nov. 10 at 3:45 p.m. in Hoover 212.
The meeting began with administrative reports starting with the Center for Community and Civic Engagement (CCCE) Director Javita Thompson reporting that the office will be hosting its first winter break trip in over two years. From Dec. 9-14, the trip will be going to New Bern, N.C. to work to remodel homes for the Craven County Disaster Recovery Alliance. The deadline to register is Nov. 13.
Unpaid paid parking tickets can be paid via donations to the Blue Jay Pantry. Head to the CCCE website or Instagram for specifics on what items qualify to be donated, Donations are to be dropped off at the Campus Safety building.
The Etown Campus Shuttle is back. The shuttle schedule is as follows: Tuesday, Thursday, Friday from 3-5 p.m. running from the airport and train station and Saturday running to the Belmont Plaza departing at 9 a.m. and returning at 12:30 p.m.
Moving into Executive Cabinet reports, Executive President Madison Holmberg reported that this is the final week for preparations for the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) meeting. Holmberg also was excited to announce that the Senate office has gotten cleaned out.
Moving into committee updates, Traditions Chairperson Abigail Lindsay reported that Tree Lighting is coming up on Wednesday Nov. 16 at 8 p.m., with a photo opportunity with “Frozen” characters Elsa and Olaf on the BSC patio from 7-8 p.m.
Those who reserved a mug via the sign up will be able to receive it following the conclusion of the program.
Advocacy and Service Acting Chairperson Christy Martin reported that a blanket making service event will be held on Thursday Dec. 1 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in the Jay Lounge.
Moving into class updates, Class of 2025 President Emma Sager reported that Formal Jay is happening Friday Nov. 11 and that tickets will be sold at the door for the first half hour of the event.
Class of 2024 President Lindsay reported that the red bins for pumpkins will remain outside of the residence halls until Friday Nov. 18.
Moving into new business, a presentation was shown to explain the role of each SLT member in preparation for the upcoming meeting that they will be in attendance at.
A motion was made to move in an Executive session in order to carry out committee elections and final prep for the SLT meeting, in which the vote passed.
Student Senate meets weekly on Thursday at 3:45 p.m. in Hoover 212. Meetings are open to all the campus community.
