Student Senate met for their weekly meeting Thursday, Jan. 26 at 3:45 p.m. in Hoover 212.
The meeting began with Administrative reports, starting with Dean of Students & Executive Director for College Diversity, Equity and Belonging Nichole Gonzalez, who addressed the recent email sent out regarding mold spores found in Hackman South Apartment by a Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) test kit.
The College has hired an outside company to conduct tests and once the results are received they will be released to the campus community. The results are anticipated to be received Tuesday.
Assistant Director of Student Activities and Commuter Engagement Brooke Hollinger asked for feedback regarding how to increase the attendance of OSA events.
Class of 2025 Treasurer Griffin Maclaren expressed that low attendance may be in correlation with overbooking between OSA events and club events.
Dining Services General Manager Austin Benner addressed how Dining Services utilizes sustainable practices through composting leftover foods, which are then sent to local farms.
Career Development Center Associate Director of Employer Relations Maureen Brown reported that on Thursday, Feb. 2 senior students will be 100 days away from graduation, and the Center will be holding a Senior Transition event from 6-8 p.m. in the Bowers Center for Sports, Fitness and Well-being. Dinner is provided and registration is required prior to the event via Handshake.
Moving into student comments and announcements, Maclaren promoted the A-T Benefit Concert sponsored by EdOrg which happened on Friday, Jan. 27 at 6 p.m. in Leffler Chapel. The cost was $5 to students and $10 to the outside community.
Class of 2023 Representative Gavin McCabe promoted Mad Cows Improv’s first show of the semester, which happened in Gibble Auditorium on Saturday, Jan. 28 at 6 p.m. The cost was $2.
Moving into Executive Cabinet updates, Executive Vice President Jeremy Reel reported that they have been working on the concrete project of installing charging stations throughout campus, starting with the BSC, with three stations. This is being done in collaboration with ITS and the Engineering Department, who will be working to 3-D print holders to keep the cords organized.
Elections Chairperson Gabe Karl reported that the committee will soon be releasing information regarding the scholarships that are done during the spring semester.
Publicity and Marketing Chairperson Jessica Piergallini reported that the committee will be working on a new social media campaign called I-Spy a Senator. This campaign will work to recognize the work of the Senators that may go unrecognized.
Moving into Committee updates, Traditions Chairperson Abigail Lindsay reported that the committee will be working to bring back the Blue Jay Day event, which focused around school spirit.
Moving into Class updates, Class of 2025 President Emma Sager reported that the class has created a timeline to begin prep for the Junior/Senior event. They also worked to plan out how they will continue to advance their advocacy project throughout the semester.
Class of 2024 President Lindsay reported that they officially have a venue and theme for the Junior/Senior event, which will be revealed soon.
Class of 2023 President Brooke Charria reported that the class is continuing to raise money for their class gift, of installing a ramp on the Dell gazebo. To make a donation you can visit the class’s instagram and click the link in the bio.
Moving into New Business on the agenda was to vote to approve a resolution to be pushed out to the student body regarding the tragedy that occurred in Monterey Park, Calif. A motion was made for a vote in which the motion and vote passed.
A motion was then made to move into an Executive Session in which the motion and vote passed.
