Student Senate met for their weekly meeting Thursday, Sept. 29 at 3:45 p.m. in Hoover 212.
The meeting began with Administrative Reports starting with Dean of Students & Executive Director for College Diversity, Equity and Belonging Nichole Gonzalez reported that they are still in need of student drivers for transports from Campus Safety and 10 person vans for club trips.
The next Desserts before Dinner with the Dean will be held Oct. 11 at 4:30 p.m. in the Blue Bean. Stop by to have some desserts and chat with Gonzalez.
Assistant Director of Student Activities and Commuter Engagement Brooke Hollinger reported that Comedy Magician Joel Meyers had to cancel his show due to weather in his hometown. Associate Dean of Students for Community Living Jenn Crowder reported that the event has been rescheduled for Jan. 28.
Crowder also reported that students living in Myer and Ober received an email regarding the AC units that will be capped over fall break. This is an annual process that occurs in order to prevent any damage from occurring to the AC units in the colder months.
There was no new report from General Manager of Dining Service Austin Bender; however a question was raised as to whether the Fresh Nest would be able to open earlier in the day in which he said he could look into.
There was no update from Campus Safety in regards to whether or not they will be doing the canned food drive that would allow students to donate a canned item in place of their parking ticket.
Crowder updated that recently all the blue lights across campus were checked and all were in working condition. A question was asked as to how often these lights are checked, and Crowder said she will check on it.
Center for Community and Civic Engagement Director Javita Thompson reported that Into the Streets sign ups are now open and the deadline to register is Oct. 12. They will also be selling t-shirts for the event in the BSC concourse. The next time they will be selling is Oct. 4 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.
Moving into Executive Cabinet reports, Executive President Madison Holmberg reported that a few other Executive Cabinet members have been working with the Class of 2024 and Project Manager of Facilities Management Department Jerry Schaber to plan some new sustainability initiatives.
Moving into committee updates, Traditions Chairperson Abigail Lindsay reported that if your club was approved for a float, you would have received an email from Emma Pile about additional information. Float painting will be at the Elizabethtown Fairgrounds on Oct. 13 from 1-3 p.m. and 4-6 p.m. Float building will take place Oct. 14 from 12-5 p.m.
Moving into class updates, Class of 2025 President Emma Sager reported that they will be having a “bring a buddy to Senate day” on Oct. 21 in hopes of gaining some input on Formal Jay.
Sager also reported that their advocacy project will be “wellbeing” and will focus on the mental and physical wellbeing for the student body.
Class of 2024 President Lindsay reported that they will be selling tote bags with the Etown ‘E’ logo on them at the Homecoming activities fair, as the bags align with their advocacy project of sustainability.
Moving into old business, Acting Executive Treasurer Griffin Maclaren re-presented the Student Senate yearly budget breakdown, after not passing the vote the previous meeting.
An adjustment was made giving the Traditions Committee an additional $1,000. A motion was made to vote on the budget, in which the vote passed.
Moving into new business, McClaren gave a short presentation of fundraising and the importance of it to clubs.
A motion was then made to move into Executive Session, in which the vote passed.
The next Student Senate meeting will be held Thursday, Oct. 20 at 3:45 p.m. in Hoover 212.
