Student Senate met for their weekly meeting Thursday, Oct. 27 at 3:45 p.m. in Hoover 212.
The meeting began with a special order to recognize individuals who played a key role in helping to plan this year’s Homecoming.
Then was the Oath of Office for the Secretary for the Class of 2024 Megan Gangal.
Moving into administrative reports, Dean of Students & Executive Director for College Diversity, Equity and Belonging Nichole Gonzalez reported that there will be an event held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 3 for the BlueJay Blueprint program.
Assistant Director of Student Activities and Commuter Engagement Brooke Hollinger reported that new club registration will open via JayWeb on Nov. 1 and remain open through Nov. 15.
Associate Dean of Students for Community Living Jenn Crowder reported that the spring housing intention form will open on Nov. 1. This form allows housing and residence life to know who is returning in the spring to see if any changes need to be made to housing arrangements.
General Manager of Dining Service Austin Bender reported that starting Monday, Oct. 31 the Jays Nest will no longer be serving made-to-order food due to a number of employees quitting, adding to the shortage of workers. The alternative to this will be they will have hot grab and go foods that will be a limited menu of what the made to order food is. The specifics are still in the works.
Associate Dean for Student Counseling and Health Needs Bruce Lynch reported that Lancaster General Health Sycamore Square is working to develop a Patient Advisory Coyncil (PAC) that would be made up of Elizabethtown College students to provide feedback and create ideas on how to improve health services for students.
Moving into Executive Cabinet Reports, Executive President Madison Holmberg reported that she and Executive Vice President Jeremy Reel met with the Board of Trustees last Friday and the meeting went well.
Holmberg also reported that Class Senates are to begin brainstorming questions in preparation for the upcoming Senior Leadership Meeting on Nov. 17.
Student Groups Chairperson Isaac Kreinbring reported that trunk or treat will be on Sunday, Oct. 30 starting at 6 p.m. in the Hoover parking lot.
Publiclicity and Marketing Chairperson Jessica Piergallini reported that the committee will be sponsoring a $50 prize for the best trunk at trunk or treat.
Piergallini also announced the October Senator of the month, Griffen McClaren, for his work both within his Class Senate but also on the Executive Cabinet.
Moving into committee updates, Acting Finance Chairperson McClaren reported that the committee voted to give partial approval of the request from Mad Cow for jerseys.
McClaren also teased about an upcoming concrete project that the committee is working on, that he will be meeting with Hollinger.
Traditions Chairperson Abigail Lindsay reported that the save date for Tree Lighting will be sent out to students and faculty via email on Friday, Oct. 28. The event will take place on Wednesday, Nov. 16 at 8 p.m. outside of Zug. From 7-8 p.m. there will be a photo opportunity with “Frozen” characters Elsa and Olaf on the BSC patio.
The mug giveaway will be done though a pre-registered link that will go out to the student body on Nov. 2 at noon.
Acting Advocacy and Service Chairperson Christy Martin thanked everyone for their participation in this year’s Into the Streets. She is working to collect the feedback from the survey sent to Senate members to see what worked well and what needs to be improved for next year’s event.
Moving into class updates, Class of 2026 President Elsa Woodarek reported that the class will be hosting their first social on Friday, Nov. 4 from 3-6 p.m. in the Jay Lounge and all are welcomed to join.
Class of 2025 President Emma Sager reported that the class will be hosting its ‘bring a buddy to Senate’ day at their class meeting on Friday, Oct. 28. They are hoping to receive suggestions about the Formal Jay event.
