On Thursday, Sept. 23, Student Senate met for their weekly meeting in Hoover 212.
The meeting began with Dean of Students & Executive Director of Diversity, Equity and Belonging Nichole Gonzalez speaking about a change in Elizabethtown College’s immunization policy. She stated that anyone receiving an immunization waiver or exemption must now provide documentation for it, either for medical or religious reasons. The COVID-19 vaccination is still not required for all Etown students, but it is now mandatory for student-athletes.
Next, Assistant Director of Community Living Rina Carpenter reported on behalf of the Office of Student Activities. They spoke about upcoming events, such as the Hersheypark ticket giveaway taking place over fall break.
Director of Housing & Residence Life Jenn Azevedo began by announcing that roommate agreements are now available to complete. She emphasized the importance of these and encouraged all students to fill them out.
She also highlighted that room inspections have begun and will be carried out within the next two weeks, starting on Sept. 23.
Associate Director for Diversity, Equity and Belonging Ellis Bonds stated that the Ujima Dialogue resumes after fall break.
Curtis Smith represented the Center for Student Success. He reported that they have been working on progress surveys. The Academic Advising department is collecting input from professors and will be offering services and resources to students who have flags.
Before Executive Cabinet reports, sophomore Sarah Moscoso announced the start of a Latinx Hispanic Student Union on campus.
Senior Executive Treasurer Kyle Cappucci advised clubs to fill out the budget request form.
Aside from that announcement, the reports pertained to mainly internal affairs.
Next, there was an election for the Campus Inclusion Committee. This is a group created and administered by President Cecilia M. McCormick, J.D. with an overall goal of understanding diversity and belonging on campus. The committee meets every three weeks on Fridays from 1:30 to 3 p.m.
For committee updates, 2024 President and Service Committee Chair Maddi Holmberg discussed internal plans regarding Into the Streets, which is on Oct. 23.
The meeting concluded with class updates.
