Student Senate met Thursday, Feb. 11 for their weekly meeting over Zoom. The meeting began with the oath of office for the newly elected first-year representative.
Senators then moved into administrative report, where Director of Leadership and New Student/Family Orientation Stacey Zimmerman gave the student life report for Vice President for Student Life Dr. Celestino Limas. She reported the fire pits will be installed in the coming week, after Special Events, Campus Security and Community Living establish rules.
Zimmerman also reported that as of Wednesday, about 900 COVID entry test results had been received with a .68 percent positivity rate.
After Zimmerman, Assistant Director of Community Living Rina Carpenter gave reports for both the Office of Student Activities and Community Living. They announced that a 25Live training session will occur soon and that RA applications are open.
Director of Campus Security Andrew Powell spoke about the surveillance testing, which begins Monday, Feb. 15. Emails will be sent to selected students Mondays with testing times for Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. The testing location is in the athletic training area of the Bowers Center for Sports, Fitness and Well-being.
The Center for Student Success’ report was given by Assistant Director of Academic Advising Curtis Smith. He informed senators that the last date to withdraw from a class without it appearing on a transcript is Friday, Feb. 19.
Associate Director of Intercultural Affairs Ellis Bonds gave the Office of Diversity, Inclusion and Title IX’s report. Bonds reminded senators that the Ujima Dialogue Series has begun and runs every Monday at 7p.m..
During Executive Cabinet reports, junior Executive Treasurer Kyle Cappucci announced the finance committee approved the new club allowance for CCO Rekindle. He also told senators that if any clubs are having trouble with the budget request form, they can email the Student Senate account.
Senators then had committee and class updates. First-year class president Maddi Holmberg welcomed the Class of 2024’s new representative, as well as announcing first-year Gabby Sewell as their new class secretary.
Sophomore class vice president Jalen Belgrave and junior class president Jessica Freels both reported that their classes are both working on their respective advocacy projects. The Class of 2023 is working to promote diversity and inclusion on campus, and the Class of 2022 is working on accessibility across campus.
Senators then moved into their orders of new business for time reasons. New business consisted of internal committee elections.
Student Senate meets weekly Thursdays at 3:45 p.m. over Zoom. Meetings are open to all Elizabethtown College students, staff and faculty.
